Canada Games Wrap Up...
The PEI
Canada games team finished in 7th position after the
final standings at the 09 games. This is a best ever
finish for PEI men's rugby moving up three placements
from last year's national.
The boys had
a disappointing opening round dropping close games to
N.B.(10-5), Saskatchewan( 14-6), and Manitoba (16-8)
before
winning over N.S ( 10-5) This relegated the Islanders to
the Consolation final round with its sights clearly oin
the 5th place finish.
The drive for 5 was on as they faced N.S. for the second
straight day dropping the Keltics 14-0. The following
day they faced Manitoba wanting to avenge an earlier
pool play loss. They would not disappoint defeating the
Bisons ( buffaloes) 17-0.
Later on that evening we were to face top place
finisher in our pool, Saskatchewan. Earlier in the week
the boys had beaten up on the Prairie
but came up on the losing end. This was a game
that really took the wind out of our sail. Leading 6-0
for the majority of the game, Saskatchewan scored
a late try and converted it to win 7-6.
The following morning we face N.B. again
seeing both sides exchanging trys
with
N.B. winning 29-14. After a long nap throught the day
the boys returned to the field for their 9th, that is
correct, their 9th rugby match in 5 days. This time
their opponent was Quebec.( ranked 5th coming into the
games) The lads were pumped as they took the field
handling the Caribou and handing them a 22-5 score to
finish the cons round with 3 wins -2 losses , good
enough for 7th place.

Senior Women off to the Seahorse Cup......
The PEI Senior women are headed to Halifax this weekend
to play in the Seahorse Cup. Good Luck Ladies!

U17 Provincial Women Win Bronze Medals...
The PEI Under 17 women's rugby team returned home from
the Eastern Canadian Rugby Championships held recently
in St John's, Newfoundland. "This was terrific
experience for the whole team" said coach Shannon

Eastern Canadian Rugby Championships...
Good luck to the PEI U17 and U19 Women's Provincial Rugby teams and the
PEI Canada Games Men's (U19) team who are heading to St.
Johns, Newfoundland for the Eastern Canadian Rugby
Championships from July 17-19th.
